Would it put people off camping on a site if groups of young people under 21 or 25 were not allowed - or would it encourage more people to come??
Should groups of youths be banned from camping together as they potentially can be noisy and troublesome?

We don't think it would put over 25s off, but it might deter a few younger folk.
Much depends on the size of the party Alice, and on their conduct. I don't think one could reasonably discriminate on the grounds of age alone. It's a difficult decision. Best bet might be to say to all campers - "as a condition of staying here we expect you to respect the comfort of others, if you don't you must leave!". And if faced with what might be a potentially "difficult" group one could lay it on the line when they book in.
We had big group of young foreign campers on a site we stayed at recently and we couldn't fault them on their conduct.
I don't think you could discriminate on age alone. You might be able to do it on the basis of large groups of any age.

i think it would put a lot of people off camping, the last thing you want is a bunch of 5 or 6 lads shouting and swearing in the next tent to you especially if you have kids

Personally, I find the matter of other people's noise one of the most important issues when camping, whether it is someone snoring (of any age), or talking and laughing not particularly loudly but until the early hours, or having a riotous party with no thought of any one else. All these are invariably endured on official campsites.

I prefer to wild camp as much as possible with only the sound of the waves/wind/birds and that's why I love to take my holidays in Scotland where wild camping is tolerated.

Having said that, I have enjoyed some wonderfully quiet campsites in Scotland, like Uig and Tote on Skye and Resipole and Kilchoan Hotel, Ardnamurchan.

i think its up to camp manegment to control noisy campers, rather than ban age groups, my sons age 18 & 21 enjoy the freedom of camping and dont cause any bother ( i have checked). But groups of neds young and old can spoil a holiday, so these need to be controled when they apppear

I must say I greatly sympathise with David. I live in a flat where opening a window at any moment (even after midnight) means that I cannot hear even the TV. Noise pollution is a serious an pressing problem but little people seem to be fighting against it. David questions why everyone is putting up with noise, while there are millions of people passionately fighting for other causes. To come to think about it, I don't know why either. Simple questions often are the hardest to answer.
