Have just returned from NW Scotland and was struggling to find a campsite near Kinlochbervie so we could do the lovely walk to Sandwood Bay. We found one from following the signs, so just to let others know, there is a Caravan Club Members Only Certified Location on the cliffs over Kinlochbervie. The CC handbook puts it miles away in Lairg which is why we couldn't find it in the book!
It has five nice hardstandings in a stunning location looking out to sea over Loch Clash. The owner is planning to put in hook-up but currently only provides water and toilet disposal. Great for campervans, bit tricker for caravans, no tents. I doubt you could put an awning up unless you had a small van. Dogs OK. No toilet block or showers so you need to be self-contained.
If you fancy watching great black backed gulls and gannets wheeling around the cliffs right in front of you, you'll love this site.

This sounds interesting, we are always looking for new out-of-the-way places to go, have never stayed at a Certified Location before but would like to try some of them.  Is the road only suitable for small campervans or would coachbuilt vehicles be able to use it?

The West Highlands locations are always hard to work out, lots of places are listed as Lairg although they are nowhere near it, I think Lairg used to be the county town, always worth looking up on the map.

Hi Jane,
We have a 7 meter campervan, so you should be fine. I think most campervans would have no problem, but the reason I am a little less certain for caravans is that although the hardstandings are fine for vans, manouvering into them might be difficult if the other sites were full and you were towing a caravan. There is one site that looks ideal for caravans though, where you could drive in and easily reverse into it, so I guess if you get there early....!!!!
If you like bird watching, it is great. They come and use the lift off the cliff and hover and swoop in front of you. It's a delight. The view is fantastic too - out over the Loch and the sea not over the fish factory! Might be tricky in the wrong wind though - westerly gales and you might be somewhat exposed and facilities are rudimentary.
If you are looking for off the beaten track sites, another gem is Badrallach Bothy and Campsite on Little Loch Broom. We got our 7 m to it although we had to be dragged out (the site entrance is steep and it's easy to dig into the soft gravel). Worth it though, fabulous site, great for walking and just so deliciously remote and quiet. Hookup here and a lovely clean toilet and shower block.
Les

Loc: Kinlochbervie

For tents there is camping on the beach at Sheigra, and people occasionally camp above the beach at Oldshoremore.

Some of people also walk out to Sandwood and camp there before walking back, but please forage firewood from the beach and not from the stock-fencing.

The Spar shop in the village is well-stocked and the hotel does good food and drink.
